The Exe Estuary Management Plan Questionnaire
The Exe Estuary Management Plan sets out the Partnership’s proposed objectives for the next five years. This questionnaire summarises the key objectives for 2006 - 2011. We would like to hear your comments on these objectives and your priorities for managing the Exe Estuary. If you have any further comments, there is plenty of space for you to include them in question 2 below.

Promote use of sustainable transport (e.g. public transport and cycling) to access the Estuary and facilitate improved access for all
Maintain and enhance the condition of the internationally important wildlife sites on the Exe
Improve public understanding of the value of the Exe Estuary and its natural environment
Raise awareness of the value and vulnerability of historical & archaeological sites and features on the Estuary
Raise awareness of the relationship between use of the land surrounding the Exe and water quality and sediment deposition in the Estuary, and promote responsible local land management schemes
Develop and support implementation of a sustainable system for managing fisheries on the Exe
Encourage recreational use of the Estuary and balance different activities’ needs. (Develop an agreed zoning system so that of the various activities on the Exe can occur with minimum conflict)
Facilitate the promotion of the Estuary as a year round destination for environmentally friendly tourism and recreational activities
Seek to assist projects or businesses which promote the natural value of the Estuary
Evaluate the affect of climate change on local communities and the environment and develop plans for their protection
Maintain dialogue with relevant industries on site management and co-ordinate partnerships to ensure good environmental quality. i.e. promote effective, regular air quality monitoring along the Estuary and achieve good chemical and biological water quality
Reduce the amount of waste, litter and fly tipping on the Estuary and support and promote regular beach and shoreline clean-up events
Encourage use of renewable energy sources for outdoor public facilities where applicable (e.g. parking metres, street lighting, etc.)
Ensure development of a consistent approach to education and interpretation of the many aspects of the Estuary
Ensure that local authorities work across political boundaries and manage the Estuary as a complete landscape in order to maintain its distinctive nature
Support implementation of the reviewed Devon Coastal Pollution Contingency Plan
Evaluate the risk of erosion and flooding on local human communities, the built environment and biodiversity
Encourage a responsible, long-term approach to planning developments on the Exe
