The event is an opportunity for local people with an interest in the Exe Estuary to come and discuss their views and hear about management on the estuary. The event is set up by the Exe Estuary Management Partnership who have a role in community and stakeholder engagement on the Exe. The Forum is an open event at which any organisation, interest group or member of the public can become involved in discussion of estuary related matters.
This year we are focusing on the Renewal of the Management Plan which will cover the next 5 years (2022-2027).
The evening will kick off with some short presentations, followed by a series of workshops based around the renewal of the Management Plan.
To ensure that we are getting YOUR views on topics that YOU are most interested in, you have the opportunity to pick the THREE Themes that most interest you when booking your ticket. We will endeavour to allocate you to your preferred workshop, but this cannot be guaranteed as there will be a maximum of 6 people per table.
What is the Management Plan?
The Exe Estuary Management Plan details management measures to guide key and statutory organisations in delivering their statutory duties in a co-ordinated manner. It outlines policies, issues and five-year objectives to ensure sustainable use of the Exe for the future. The plan incorporates the Management Scheme for the Special Protection Area (Regulation 34, Habitats Directive), identifying policies which aim to achieve favourable condition of the protected wildlife and supporting habitats. The Plan also promotes the sustainable use of the Estuary balancing the demands made on its natural resources and resolving conflicts of interest and provide a framework for the co-ordinated management of the Estuary and communication between users and organisations with authority over the Exe.
Why Renew the Plan?
The current plan covers the period of 2016-2021 and was based on the scientific report, the ‘State of the Exe Estuary 2014’, which detailed the information available on the condition of the environment at that time. However, things will have changed considerably since then. The environmental conditions of the estuary will have changed, and policy and legislation are different today than it was in 2014. Not only this, stakeholders have changed, with new emerging user groups and businesses being present on the estuary.
If you have booked a ticket but can no longer go, please make sure that you cancel your ticket so someone else can take your place. Contact the Exe Estuary Officer if you have any questions.
Finally, a huge thank you to Ocean, Exmouth for sponsoring the event. We look forward to seeing you there.
