On the 7th of July, the Exe Estuary Officers (Chloe and Lauren) joined the Farm and Conservation Team from Natural England in Topsham for their team away day. Our Officers presented the Exe Estuary Partnership and shared lessons learnt from collaborative work across the Estuary. They also trialled estuary learning activities with the group, adapted from the new school sessions we’ve been running this spring and summer.
The group also heard from the Devon County Council Heritage Team lead, Bill Horner, about local heritage assets and the storied past of Topsham and the wider Estuary.
The afternoon was spent at Bowling Green Marsh accompanied by Lauren and a representative from the RSPB. They ended the day with a representative from the South West Coast Path.
The Estuary Officers were pleased to be able to support the logistics of the day by finding and booking a venue, both as a back up for poor weather, and as a space for convening and presenting, and inviting our heritage colleague. Lauren was able to serve as the Natural England team’s first aider during the day, filling a gap in their own provisioning.
We really enjoyed engaging with Natural England – a partner of the Exe Estuary Management Partnership (EEMP) – and sharing our work with their wider colleagues.
